Patrick Dean, president of Dean Transportation, recently stepped into another key leadership role as the 35th president of the National School Transportation Association (NSTA).
Founded in 1964, NSTA remains the leading membership organization for school bus contractors across the United States and Canada. Its members are dedicated to providing the safest, most secure, environmentally friendly and cost-effective school bus transportation services.
“I am honored to represent school bus contractors,” said Dean. “I have been involved with NSTA in some form for most of my life. NSTA provides critical advocacy for our industry and is known for its leadership in the industry. The organization has strong leadership, and I am honored to continue the leadership of past presidents who have grown the organization to its current importance today.”
Dean first became involved with NSTA in 2007 as a committee participant, including serving on Business Development and Government Relations. From 2018 to 2022, he represented NSTA on the American School Bus Council. Subsequently, he served as NSTA vice president and secretary (2021–2023) and president-elect (2023–2025), before stepping into his current role as president. Beyond these positions, Dean continues to hold significant leadership responsibilities, chairing the Strategic Planning Committee since 2020 and the Non-Traditional Transportation Task Force since 2022, while also co-chairing the Business Development Committee since 2018.
“Patrick was well-positioned to take the reins of NSTA as president,” said Curt Macysyn, executive director of NSTA. “He came through the ranks serving on NSTA committees for several years and then took on leadership positions as vice president and then president-elect of the organization in the four years preceding his elevation to presidency. I am most proud of the work we have done together on the NSTA Strategic Plan, as Patrick’s keen insight and natural leadership qualities resulted in a three-year plan that the entire association can rally around. I am looking forward to a very successful two years under Patrick’s leadership.”
In addition to Patrick Dean’s position as president, Dean Transportation is also represented on the NSTA board by Kellie Dean, CEO.
